Muizenberg: On Mandela day, people all around the country are encouraged to take action and inspire change within societies. On Monday, 18 July 2022, in honour of Mandela Day, members of Muizenberg’s SAPS Women’s Network in Cape Town, Western Cape visited Vrygrond Gospel Faith Mission Church and engaged in various activities such as cooking and preparing meals for the community and raising crime awareness.

About 100 people from the community were served food and taught about crime and gangsterism that is happening around communities.

Muizenberg Communication Officer, Captain Stephen Knapp said the team needed to do something for the community. “This day aims at serving as a call to make contribution and help change the world for the better. Policing is not just about fighting crime, but to build our communities as well.” said Knapp.

Muizenberg SAPS’ Women’s Network chairperson, AC Geovanna Dowman, ensured that the event was a success. She said it was a humbling and heartwarming to see the gratitude of the community. “We knew that the Women’s Network had to do something to give back to the community today, it is something we have been planning to do for some time now and we are glad that everything was a success. We are hopeful that we will continue with the work we have started and continue giving back to the needy.” Said Dowman.
