In a bid to curb and reduce theft and or damaged to infrastructure, a team was established around the West rand district which deals specifically with infrastructure related crimes, that did not deter the two detectives from the West Rand District Trio from responding to their police obligations.
The pair, Detective Sgt Tebogo Goshupelwang and Sgt Etlith Dowelani were on their routine investigation duties this morning at approximately 09:30 around Tambo informal settlement when they came across an open bakkie loaded but the contents were covered with a black tent.
They allegedly stopped the bakkie and introduced themselves to the occupants. They asked the driver to remove the seal so that they can check the contents. They found big steel pipes which looked like mine property. The members requested documents to proof ownership from the trio but they could not produce. They further demanded the trio to produce their identity documents of which they also failed.
The members immediately placed the suspects aged between 31-47 years under arrest for possession of suspected stolen properties and for contravention of the immigration Act.
After being processed, they will make their brief court appearance before the Westonaria Magistrates' Court.
The Station Commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela commended the members for their swift reaction and for acting with integrity in rendering a service of high standard. "Thank you for your hard work, your dedication will not go by unnoticed as she concludes".
