Bothasig: On 22 July 2022 eagle eased members of SAPS Bothasig rendered the local drug trade a bloodied nose.

According to Sergeant t Reggie Mars, he and his colleague Constable Emile Saaiman were on crime prevention patrols during the early hours of Friday 22 July 2022 with the aim of curbing night time burglaries in Edgemead and Bothasig.

At 02:00 the members were patrolling in Bothasig when they noticed a male person walking in Bosmansdam Road. Suspecting it might possibly be a night time burglar they decided to investigate. What aroused their suspicion even more was the fact that the night time pedestrian started acting suspiciously when he noticed the police vehicle approaching him.

The members then stopped, and approached the very nervous pedestrian while Sgt Mars enquired regarding his whereabouts. He volunteerderd to be searched, but when Sgt Mars found something hidden under his t-shirt he tried to make a run for it. The members were having none of this and quickly caught up with him. On further investigation the reason why he tried to make a run for it was revealed.

In the concealed container the person had on him, Sgt Mars found 15 packets of Tik, 22 units of heroin, as well as Mandrax and dagga. The suspect, a 21 year old male from Lentegeur was arrested and detained at SAPS Bothasig on charges of drugs. He will be charged and is due to appear in Goodwood Court next week.

The acting station commander, Lt Col Mbuyiseli Hiki, was upbeat with the good work and praised the members for their commitment and vigilance. He was glad that the drugs were taken off the street and could not cause further damage in the community.
