Nelspruit: 25 July 2022- A 33-year-old male suspect who was arrested on allegations of being in possession of suspected stolen truck at Mzinti near Tonga on Saturday, 23 July 2022 was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The said truck was reported hijacked at Schoemandal on the same day. Police's swift reaction and hard work led to the arrest of the suspect barely an hour after the hijacking. Police reportedly searched the suspect before taking him to the Police Station whereby a firearm with its serial number filed off was found in the suspect's possession. There were no ammunition.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrates' Court today (Monday 25 July 2022) on charges of possession of suspected stolen vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded the members for their vigilance. "We believe that this success will somehow boost public confidence so that the community continues to trust police with information. We promise not to disappoint as everyone can see the results which are commendable" said the General.
