Bothasig: SAPS Bothasig did it again! With a continuous focus to rid and safe guard the local community from drugs, the drug trade took as knock on 12 August 2022.

According to Const Dunay Smith he and his colleague Sgt Xolisa Jikeka were on crime prevention patrols on Giel Basson Drive Bothasig at 21:30 when they noticed a white vehicle without lights on, travelling in the direction of Burgundy Estate. The members were concerned that it might cause a collision therefore they flashed the vehicle with the patrol vehicle head lights to alert the driver, which did not work. According to Cst Smith they then decided to pull the vehicle over to inform the driver about his lack of lights, which they did.

On approaching the vehicle they noticed that the driver was fiddling around inside the vehicle and when reaching him, saw that he was very nervous. Const Smith also noticed a large amount of cash inside the vehicle which aroused his suspicion that something was up. When enquiring whether there was anything illegal inside the vehicle, the driver indicated in the negative and gave the members permission to search the vehicle.

During the search Cst Smith found two containers with drugs inside and a large amount of cash inside the vehicle. On closer inspection the drug haul produced 38 units of cocaine, 1 unit containing crystal meth and another with ecstasy tablets. The value of the drugs and cash netted is estimated at R17 000,00.

The suspect, a 32-year-old foreign national from Parklands was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs. The drugs and cash, along with the vehicle and seized and handed in. The suspect has appeared at Goodwood court.
