Muizenberg: As part of woman’s month, Muizenberg SAPS woman’s network partnered with CPF Muizenberg in Cape Town, Western Cape to donate sanitary towels to girl learners and also empower them in two different schools in the Muizenberg precinct. This took place in Capricorn and Zerilda Park primary school in Vrygrond on Friday 12 August 2022 and Tuesday 16 August 2022 where at least 200 sanitary towels were donated.
Muizenberg SAPS Communication Officer, Captain Stephen Knapp said programmes like these were also to empower young people. “They assist young girls in gaining confidence and also ensure that they are not absent from school when they are on periods.” said Knapp.
The initiative is to also ensure that young girls don’t miss out on school because they are on periods and don’t have sanitary towels.
Muizenberg SAPS Women’s Network Chairperson, AC Giovanna Dowman talked about women empowerment and said young girls should be empowered and supported and urged them to support each other at all times. She said the donation was bringing dignity to the young girls. She stated that this was an initiative they want to continue with going forward.
Dowman also spoke about bullying and abuse happening at the schools and pleaded with the learners to always report anyone that is bullying them. “You must never let anyone tell you what to do and be bullied, if someone is bullying you, you must report them,” said Dowman.
Capricorn Primary School Principal, Ms Hassen thanked SAPS members for the initiative they have for the learners and said they appreciate it.
