SEVERAL ARRESTS MADE BY ECONONMIC INFRASTRUCTURE TASK TEAM: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE: 30 AUGUST 2022 - Integrated operations between the Economic Infrastructure Task Team and other Law Enforcement agencies proved to be fruitful when they arrested several suspects who were found in possession of copper cables.

In the early hours of Monday, 2022-08-29 members of Economic Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) together with the City of Cape Town law Enforcement officials, and officers from various Parastatals, conducted an integrated intelligence operation in the area of Bishop Lavis.

A number of addresses were visited and general policing was conducted. Members conduct Vehicle Check Points (VCP) at known scrap metal dealers that yield positive results when a female was arrested with seven bags of copper belonging to various Parastatals. The weight of the copper cables was 293kg with estimate value of R36 000. The vehicle that she travelled in was also impounded at a SAPS facility.

In Elsies Rivier two males was arrested for being in possession of cables that was identified as property of the Drakenstein municipality. The weight was 11kg. Both were detained for Criminal Matters Amendment Act Section 3 and General law Amendment Act Section 36 , possession of suspected stolen property.


In Kleinvlei another male person was arrested for copper wires and cables that was identified by Telkom.

The four suspects all in their 30’s will be charge and appear in the Goodwood Magistrates' Court once charged.
