2022/09/06      |  Written By:  SAC C Kompe   |   Province:  Northern Cape

The SAPS Management and personnel in the Northern Cape wishes to extend their congratulations applaud Warrant Officer Wiid for being crowned the South African Combat  Rifle Female Champion at the South African National Combat Rifle competition that was held from  6 to 13 August 2022 in Bloemfontein.

Warrant Officer Wiid was born and raised in Hopetown in the Northern Cape and is the only female in the house with three brothers born to Mr Lemmer and Mrs Rina Wiid.

WO Narinda Wiid matriculated in 1992 at Hoer Landbouskool in Jacobsdal, a small town in the Free State. In 1993 she relocated to the Western Cape to further her studies at Stellenbosch College where she completed a course in Catering and Office Administration for 2 years and obtained her National N6 qualification in Office Administration.

Wiid joined SAPS as a Reservist Constable in 1995. In 1996 she started working at Stellenbosch Farmers Winery in the Sales and Promotion department for 3 years. In 1999 she worked at H&M Removals near the Cape Town Airport and also worked at PQ Africa with the Police System as an Admin Clerk.

In the2001, Warrant Officer Wiid was permanently employed in the South African Police Service. In 2022 she worked at Elsiesrivier in Cape Town then in November 2002 she was transferred to Kuilsrivier as a Detective and subsequently later to Crime Prevention unit and was later transferred back to Hopetown due to her father’s ill health.

In 2005 she started her career in CIMAC (Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre) as a crime analyst at Hopetown Station until now.

Warrant Officer Wiid learned her shooting skills from Captain Jakobus Van Onselen the then Station Commander of Hopetown. She immediately fell in love with shooting and since then never looked back. “Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend obviously never owned a gun” she said with a silly smile.

Wiid joined the Combat Rifle team in 2005 as a B-Class shooter (Beginner Shooter) and two years after she moved to A-Class as she improved. There are only 3 Classes of shooters, (A, B and X). In 2008 she bought an Optic Scope and won approximately 50 medals. The Optic Scope investment was definitely not in vain.

During this year’s SAPS Combat Rifle National competitions, Wiid won a Gold Medal as the South African Combat Rifle Female Champion. At the Police Combat Rifle National competitions she ended 3rd overall and was selected for the SAPS A-Team. She was also nominated for the South African National A-Team where she represented both teams in the finals.

On Friday, 12 August 2022 she represented SAPS and on Saturday, 13 August 2022 she represented South Africa. She came second and won a Silver Medal after the top 100 shoot and ended  5th overall. The Northern Cape A-Team won the Commissioners Cup.

Wiid is the secretary of the Northern  Cape Combat Rifle Association as well as for the SAPS Combat Rifle Association. Other than shooting, she enjoys farming with her elderly mother who is in her eighties.

She said shooting is all about confidence and one thing about her, she competes with nobody else but herself.

Warrant officer Wiid’s 5-year goal is to achieve Protea Colours which is the highest achievement in the shooting athletics.
