During February 2015 a group of nine suspects stormed into a shebeen in Enkanini informal settlement, Khayelitsha at approximately 20:45.
They alleged turned the place upside down, violently robbing the patrons and randomly stabbing them using knives and pangas.
In the process the owner of the shebeen was stabbed to death and the suspects left behind injured victims and took their belongings.
A thorough investigation and tracing of suspects by Harare SAPS detective, DConst Nkululeko Ngabayena led to the arrest of two suspects who were allegedly involved in this ordeal.
Both suspects from Site B in Khayelitsha were on trial since then until one of them tragically passed away in 2018 while still on trial.
However on Friday 2022-09-09 Phaphama Rubu ( 27) stood alone in Khayelitsha Regional Court when he was sentenced to an effective 22 years in prison.
The breakdown of the sentence is as follows:
Fifteen(15) years for murder of which three(3) was suspended.
Ten(10)years which was combined for robbery aggravated and attempted murder.
Harare SAPS management expressed their gratitude and congratulated the member for his perseverance in making sure that justice is finally served.
