WESTERN CAPE: 3 OCTOBER 2022 - The recent spate of violence in Vrygrond, Muizenberg initiated our 72 hour activation plan where a large contingent of police officers were deployed in the area to quell the violence and bring to book those responsible for the murders. This deployment led to the arrest of a 27 year old suspect who was caught in possession of an unlicensed .357 revolver and ammunition at around 09:45 this morning. Once charged, he will make his court appearance in Muizenberg.

Three suspects aged 20, 22 and 29 are also being questioned in connection with the murders which were perpetrated over the weekend in an attempt to link them with the crimes.

The endeavours of SAPS in the City of Cape Town District, comprising the West and East Metropoles are making headway in their pursuit to disarm criminals and creating a safer environment for the communities they serve. Frequent and focussed operations in this district netted a total of 46 unlicensed firearms, during last week, which is a significant increase from the 30 which were confiscated during the previous week. These operations landed 87 suspects behind bars and also saw 745 rounds of ammunition seized.

Firearm related crime will remain high on our agenda and criminals can expect to be confronted in time to come.
