POTCHEFSTROOM: 05 October 2022 - The North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed four life imprisonment terms handed down to a 28-year-old serial rapist, Tumisang Sesinyi by the North West High Court in Mmabatho on Tuesday, 4 October 2022.

Sesinyi who terrorised the community of Dinokana in Lehurutshe near Zeerust between 2012 and 2018, was apprehended on Thursday, 11 October 2018, at a dumping site after community members spotted him and informed the police.

The court heard during the proceedings that the accused targeted the local Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) College female students and raped them. During the commission of the crimes, the violent Sesinyi would attack and ultimately rape women aged between 19 and 26. 

Lieutenant General Kwena applauded Captain Pretorius and Captain Rabe who is the investigator of Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) in the Lehurutshe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The General also commended the Prosecutor, Advocate Benny Kalakgosi as well as other role players for their excellent collaboration which he said will send a stern warning that those who commit crimes and in the process, violate women and children, will not be spared.   He also thanked members of the community for their cooperation that led to the arrest.

Sesinyi who remained in custody since his arrest, was sentenced as follows:

Count one of rape             :  Life Imprisonment

Count two of robbery        :  three years imprisonment

Count three of rape           :  Life Imprisonment

Count five of rape             :  10 years imprisonment

Count seven of rape         :   Life imprisonment

Count nine of rape            :  10 years imprisonment

Count 10 of rape               :  Life imprisonment

Count 11 of robbery aggravating:15 years imprisonment
