DURBAN: 17 October 2022 – On Sunday, 16 October 2022, Durban Central police officers were working at OR Tambo Parade when they arrested four robbery suspects who were found in possession of the cellphone that was robbed. According to the victim at 05:50, she was robbed of her cellphone by four men who were traveling in a vehicle.
They stole her cellphone and fled in their vehicle. Police officers swiftly responded and an extensive search for the vehicle was conducted. On the same day at 06:20, police spotted the vehicle on OR Tambo Parade and tactically approached the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle and the suspects, police recovered a toy gun, an okapi knife and three cell phones, one of which was positively identified by the victim.
Four suspects aged between 19 and 22 were arrested and will be charged for robbery as well as possession of suspected stolen property. They will appear before Durban Magistrate’s Court on 18 October 2022. Suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other cases that had been reported where people have been robbed of their cellphones at gunpoint.
In another incident on 15 October 2022 at 12:30, KwaMashu police acted on intelligence about a man in unlawful possession of a firearm. Police proceeded to the Kholwa Road Hostel and upon searching the identified suspect, a revolver with its serial numbers erased was found in his possession. Police arrested a 24-year-old suspect for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is appearing before the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today.
