The crime prevention members, intervention group, community policing forum executive members and community patrollers led by the Visible policing Commander Lt Colonel Andile Moshani conducted a disruptive operation around Simunye and Bekkersdal on Friday the 21-10-2022 from 18:00pm until Saturday the 22-10-2022 at 02:00am in a joint effort to prevent and curb house robberies, rape and hijacking that have been affecting the Bekkersdal policing precinct mostly Simunye ext 1-5 .
Four to five suspects covering their faces with balaclavas have been targeting the community of simunye robbing them of their valuables at gun point. They would enter the victims house, demand cash and cellphones and even remove food from inside the fridge before fleeing on a getaway vehicle some on foot.
The team managed to arrest 16 suspects of which one was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, 8 for possession of drugs and 7 for undocumented foreign nationals.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrate court during the course of this week.
We will continue with this kinds of operations until there is no more space for criminals said the Station Commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela as she commend the excellent job well done.
