WESTERN CAPE – Three suspects between the ages of 30 and 31 were arrested by the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) team based in Bellville, Cape Town together with Crime Intelligence (CI) today, 27 October 2022 for dealing in drugs and corruption.
It is reported that information was received and followed up about a person who was involved with the manufacturing of steroids and the distribution of drugs.
During the investigation, it was established that the suspect does not have valid documents to possess the said medicine. The investigating team applied for a search warrant and it was authorised and executed at the said address.
Upon searching, large quantity of scheduled medicine, cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, MDMA as well as magic mushroom were seized for further investigation and the value has not yet been established. One of the suspects allegedly offered the leading investigating officer R170 000 for not taking the drugs. This resulted to a charge of corruption being added to the suspect.
They are expected to make their first court appearance in Cape Town Magistrate Court on 31 October 2022.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Western Cape Major General Mathipa Makgato appreciated the multidisciplinary police action by the different units within the South African Police Service.
