In partnership with stakeholders including Lichtenburg Police Station Community Police Forum (CPF), Departments of Health, Public Works, Correctional Services as well as Thusanang Trauma Centre, the Department of Education held an inter-departmental sports activity aimed at raising the morale of employees in the mentioned institutions.
Representatives from the departments came in numbers in support of and participating in the event.
The activities commenced with 5 and 10 kilometer fun walk around the Lichtenburg residential area with close monitoring by the Ditsobotla Local Municipality Traffic. The walk concluded with an aerobics session and other sporting activities such as volleyball, tug-of-war and indigenous games like 'dibeke', 'morabaraba' and ‘kgati’.
A health related briefing was conducted by Mr Themba Phuphuma who talked about health matters (PEP, PreP, illegal abortions, HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies). He further demonstrated the use of female condoms and encouraged participants to utilize on-site services rendered by his department. Moreover, the department offered Covid-19 vaccination (including booster shots), vital checking, HIV, pregnancy testing and family planning.
As part of the awareness, pamphlets relating to crime prevention tips were distributed by Intern Nolitha Ngisi.
