FREE STATE - The Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) and the National Prosecution Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) all based in Bloemfontein successfully secured a preservation order of a Ford Figo 2017 model to the value of R150 000 against Thandeka Mlangeni (34).

This emanates from an incident that took place from January to February 2020, where Standard Bank Forensic investigator discovered that Mlangeni a former Standard bank employee issued a fraudulent bank card using another client's details. She then transferred R1 million to a bank account belonging to her boyfriend, Hopewell Mpanduli Daguma (34). A further R51 000 was also withdrawn from the same victim’s account. The matter was then assigned to the Hawks where they discovered that some of the money was used to purchase a Ford Figo vehicle.

Meanwhile, the Harrismith Magistrates’ Court convicted Mlangeni on 22 September 2022 and her case was remanded to 5 May 2023 for sentencing.

Daguma is already serving his 10 year sentence, which he received on 15 April 2021.
