Cape Town: Anti Gang Unit members deployed to curb gang violence and its manifestations worked through the night in Bellville South and Belhar executing operations that yielded significant successes. The AGU members arrested a 17 year old suspect in Pillay Street, Bellville South for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Armed with vital information they descended on a house in William Taylor Street where they discovered 4 500 mandrax tablets and arrested a 32 year old suspect for dealing in drugs. Meanwhile the AGU’s combat and information teams pursued information that led them to an address in Grootte Schuur Street in Belhar where  they unearthed a firearm with 18 rounds of ammunition concealed in an underground makeshift safe.

They arrested a 32 year old suspect with strong links to gangs for possession of firearm and ammunition without a licence. In a tracing operation executed later in the evening, the same AGU team arrested a 39 year old wanted suspect for two counts of attempted murder.

All arrested suspects will appear in court in due course for charges specified. AGU operations are set to continue at identified hotspots.
