WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team (SCI), yesterday, 08 March 2023 arrested a 34 year old director for Car Rental Africa for allegedly swindling over R2,8 million out of the Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS).
The suspect allegedly submitted an application to the Department of Labour purporting to be acting on behalf of individuals who were his employees at Car Rental Africa, for Covid-19 TERS. Through an intensive investigation, it revealed that such individual were actually not employed by Car Rental Africa, but in fact were individuals known to him or individuals who rented motor vehicles from Car Rental Africa, unemployed or working somewhere else.
Following investigation by the team, the suspect was traced and arrested.
The alleged fraudster is scheduled to appear this morning, 09 March 2023 in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court’.
