Gqeberha: 23 March 2023 - When criminals think that they are smarter, the police need to be a step ahead and be sharper than them. So, we need to be in readiness at all times. Therefore, it is important for everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to keep fit on a regular basis.

The Eastern Cape Provincial HRD is hosting a two day inter-departmental sports competition with other law enforcement agencies and government departments in our efforts to bolster healthy relationships while at the same time promote and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Not even the rain could keep the enthusiastic participants and supporters away from Kemsley Park in Gqeberha, this morning, 23 March 2023. NMB District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata officially opened the sporting event and encouraged members to continue with events such as this. ’We need to make sure that we are fit enough and healthy  to fight crime  and criminals within our communities. As police officers, we often stress about our jobs of ensuring the safety of our communities, about meeting tight deadlines and in the process  we neglect our bodies. It is for this reason that we have prioritised our operational members to participate in these events because you are at the grassroots of policing. The wellbeing of our members is very important to the organisation,’ stated Maj Gen Ncata.

He encouraged members to enjoy the various sporting codes which included soccer, rugby, aerobics, fun walk/run, chess etc.

As a warm up to the start of the games, members were oblivious to the light intermittent rain and participated in  aerobics on the open field.

The competition will conclude tomorrow,24/03  when the winning teams and individuals will be awarded trophies and medals. Vying for the No.1 spot were teams from NMB Traffic Department, Metro Police, Department of Correctional Services and the SAPS.

The management of the SAPS encourages members to continue participating in championships of this nature.
