Community leaders and residents of Lwandle township in Cape Town have made a passionate plea to the Top Police Management in the Western Cape to build them a new police station as an urgent matter with some giving time frames of when the Police Station must be built.

This request was put across during the Police Community Imbizo which was held on Wednesday 10 May 2023.

The Imbizo which was led by the Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Tembisile Patekile was also used by the local councillor Xolani Diniso to highlight the challenges that were faced by Lwandle community in crime, he said there was a need to have a new police station in the area as population of Lwandle is rapidly growing everyday with 10 informal settlements in the recent years having been established.

He also welcomed and applaud the appointment of Lt Col Tembi  Senaya especially that now she is a woman as it was the first of its kind to have a woman as station commander at the station.

He said they are proud of her through the roadshows in all the areas in and around Lwandle.

Among other issues that were raised sharply by the residents were complaints towards police who are corrupt and unhelpful and working closely with criminals. Some suggested that the current police station should be demolished and be replaced by a fully-fledged police station.

Earlier in the programme, DPC Maj Gen Mpumelelo  Manci who spoke about the purpose of the imbizo said all What the police want to the community was a working partnership in the fight against crime as stipulated in the strategy to fight crime in the province known as Ceppat.
