POTCHEFSTROOM: 29 May 2023 - The High Density Operations continue to yield positive results. This after 261 suspects were arrested over the weekend in the province. The suspects were among others, arrested for murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and common, rape, theft of motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, burglary residential.
In one of the operations in Mahikeng and Kopfontein by the Serious and Violent Crime Units on Thursday, 25 May 2023, two suspects, aged 51 and 38, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicles; a Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota Hilux GD 6, both valued at 2 845 000.00. The vehicles were allegedly stolen in Brakpan and Midrand, Gauteng Province in February 2022 and May 2023 respectively. At the time of the arrests, the suspects were about to cross Kopfontein and Ramatlabama Ports of Entry to Zambia via Botswana. The third vehicle; a Mercedes Benz GLC 300, was seized for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Zeerust and Molopo Magistrates' Courts today.
The operations further led to issuing of five fines to live stock owners for contravention of the Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act No. 6 of 2002).
During the operations, four firearms, different drugs, liquor, ammunition and counterfeit goods were confiscated while 905 vehicles and 3 147 persons were searched. Moreover, 95 licensed liquor premises and second-hand goods dealers were inspected.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena reiterated that the police working with other law enforcement will continue to stamp the authority of the state.
