WESTERN CAPE: 05 June 2023 - Early this morning (Monday, 2020-06-05) at about 02:30, while performing stop and searches in Tafelsig Mitchells Plain, members attached to Public Order Police, Western Cape spotted three suspicious looking men on the corners of Daphne and Moira Street Tafelsig. When the members approached them, they started to run after which a foot chase ensued. A 28 year old man was apprehended and upon searching him, members found a 9 mm Star pistol with no serial number and eight 9mm rounds in his possession.
The suspect was detained for possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition charges at Mitchells Plain SAPS. He is due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates court once charged.
In an unrelated matter, on Sunday, 2023-06-04 at about 21:00 members of Operation Restore in Kraaifontein were conducting stop and searches close to a known drug outlet in 1st Avenue, Kraaifontein, when they noticed a suspicious unknown man running into the premises. They approached and apprehended the unknown man and ensued with a search. During the search members found tik and mandrax tablets in both pockets of his pants. The 23 year old suspect was then arrested for possession of drugs and detained at Kraaifontein SAPS. He is due to appear in the Kuilsrivier Magistrates’ court once charged.
Last night (Sunday, 2023-06-04) members of Maitland Flying Squad received information about a firearm at a premises in Lansdowne area. The premises was searched upon which a 9 mm pistol with serial number removed and seven 9 mm rounds were seized. A 39 year old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Wednesday on the mentioned charges.
