PARKTOWN: Wednesday, 07 June 2023 - The police in Gauteng under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela continue with their endeavours to fight against crime as they collaborate with different law enforcement agencies and the private security companies through the Eyes and Ears (E2) project with the aim of stamping the authority of the state and ensuring safety for communities of Gauteng.  

Simultaneous integrated operations were conducted throughout four districts in the province, namely;  Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Johannesburg and West Rand with the main focus being on hostel raids, roadblocks, stop and searches on hot spot areas, liquor compliance inspections and tracing of wanted suspects by the detectives. 

A number of suspects were arrested for different crimes, including possession of stolen property, dealing and possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapons, contravention of the Immigration Act and possession of precious metals were also seized during the operation.

 Fines were issued by the law enforcement agencies for contravening the Liquor Act and five were closed down for non-compliance. Two stolen trailers as per Eldorado Park cases were seized and two firearms and ammunition were also seized including 200 mandrax tablets and packets of crystal meth.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela indicated that this kind of operations will continue to be conducted randomly in order to disrupt and unsettle the criminals. He further appreciated the team of different stakeholders for their dedication and commitment in fighting crime.
