WESTERN CAPE: 14 JUNE 2023 - Our endeavours to fight serious and violent crimes in the Western Cape proved successful when police members in the Bishop Lavis policing precinct arrested and detained two suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Tuesday 13 June 2023.
Bishop Lavis police members were busy with patrols in Prunus Street, Bonteheuwel when they noticed an unknown man who suddenly changed direction when he saw the patrol vehicle approaching. The members responded and gave chase on foot and apprehended the man who was then searched. They confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and arrested and detained the 29 year old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention police members responded to information and tactically approached a premises in Berg Street in Bishop Lavis. Upon entering the premises they searched the occupants and confiscated a .38 special revolver with ammunition which was found in possession of one of them. The man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.
