Nelspruit: 14 June 2023 - A 51-year-old husband appeared in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attempt to kill his wife, Yesterday 13 June 2023 and his case was postponed to 21 June 2023 for further investigation and for a formal bail application meanwhile the suspect remains in custody. According to information, on 12 June 2023 around 12h30, the suspect who is a taxi operator, after offloading all the passengers in town, is believed to have been left with his wife. The couple allegedly started arguing on their way home.
On arrival at home, the victim tried to escape, but she was cornered and was allegedly assaulted before dragged back to the house. He allegedly tied her with cable ties and forcefully loaded her into Quantum.
According to information received, the suspect drove to the R50 road heading to the nearby farm. It is alleged that in the farm, the argument continued and it is alleged that the husband finally shot his wife in the stomach. She pleaded with him to take her to hospital and he complied.
Police were summoned to hospital and the suspect was arrested and his firearm confiscated for further investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has once again condemned the incident. "Domestic Violence cannot be tolerated in our society, family members who encounter problems, especially in their relationship should seek professional help rather than resorting into violence.
