HIGH DENSITY OPERATION SHANELA YIELDS SUCCESSES IN MPUMALANGA, 69 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Nelspruit: 20 June 2023  - The High Density Operation Shanela has yielded positive results over the past week as a total of 69 suspects were arrested for various offences across the three Districts within the province of Mpumalanga.

Amongst the arrested suspects, there were those who were nabbed for possession and dealing in drugs, and dagga. One was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm whilst others were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. There were those who were locked up for contravention of the Immigration Act meanwhile some were arrested for selling liquor without a licence as well as for non-compliance to the liquor act. Traffic fines and other fines were also issued during the operation.

The law enforcement agencies confiscated various items as the operation was rolled out, which included a 9 mm pistol, 8 pinches of suspected Nyaope, one pinch of Heroin, 1000 grams of suspected drugs, 4 pokes of dagga, a vehicle suspected to have been used in the commission of crime, as well as other items such as 45,21 litres of liquor and 675 litres of diesel suspected to have been stolen.

The Operation is ongoing and it aims at ensuring that the community is and feel safe. The actions during the operation included stop-and-searches, vehicle check points, compliance inspections, visits to liquor outlets, patrols in-and-around public areas.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has indicated that the successes achieved in this operation thus far, implies that there is progressive move towards a safer province.
