OPERATION RESTORE MEMBERS ARREST SUSPECTS FOR POSSESSION OF AN IMMITATION FIREARM, DRUGS AND AMMUNITION: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE: 17 JULY 2023 - The determination of members attached to Operation Restore to create a safer environment for all its inhabitants in the Western Cape resulted in the arrest of a 18 year old suspect on charges of possession of an imitation firearm.

On 2023-07-16 at about 21:00 members attached to Operation Restore that’s deployed in Khayelitsha/Lingelethu West were busy with high density stop and search operations in Spine Road when they spotted a suspicious man who when he saw the members approaching, suddenly changed direction and ran away to evade arrest.

The members gave chase and managed to apprehend the suspect. He was searched and found to be in possession of an imitation firearm. He was arrested and detained at Harare SAPS for the mentioned charge.

Once charged he will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court.

In an unrelated matter on Sunday, 2023-07-16 members attached to Operation Restore followed up on information received of illegal drugs and firearms that are being stored at a premises in Ganymeade Street, Woodlands, Mitchells Plain.

The members operationalised the information and went to the identified address. On arrival two male persons spotted the members and fled the scene. The members gave chase and apprehended the two suspects. The members found drugs on the one and 9mm rounds of ammunition in possession of the other person. The suspects aged 22 and 24 were arrested and once charged, will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate court on charges of possession of drugs and ammunition respectively.
