POLOKWANE: 18 July 2023 - The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of two Police officers attached to the Beitbridge Border Post by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit on Monday 17 July 2023, for a charge of corruption. On the same date, the complainant contacted the local Police alerting them about the Police officers who were demanding an amount of R 2000-00 in order to release his traffic register certificate.
The matter was immediately handed over to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Team for further investigations. The operation was conducted where the two were arrested after receiving trap money and it was found in possession of the suspects. The traffic register certificate was also found in possession of one of the suspects.
"The arrest of these members should send a clear message that the SAPS in this Province does not tolerate any form of criminality, regardless of who is the perpetrator. "Our members are hard on the ground through operation KuKula, showing passion and loyalty about the Police Services. Those who fall into a trap we will ensure that decisive steps are taken ." Concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The suspects aged 32 and 47 are scheduled to make their first court appearance in the Musina Magistrate's Court tomorrow, Wednesday 19 July 2023 facing charges of corruption. Police investigation continues.
