POTCHEFSTROOM: 25 July 2023 – Mangaliso Sinxi (38) and Adrian Symour (49), appeared before Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 July 2023, for possession of suspected stolen vehicle with an estimated value of R850 000 00. The duo’s court appearance stems from their arrest at Skilpadshek Port of Entry on Saturday, 22 July 2023, while trying to escape the country into Botswana.
According to information received, police stopped a white Toyota Fortuner at the departure point for a search. It was discovered during the search and scanning that the vehicle details were tampered with. It was further established that the vehicle’s documents were fraudulent. Further investigations indicated that the vehicle was reported stolen at Vereeniging, Gauteng on Thursday, 13 July 2023. As a result, the suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen vehicle. They are expected to re-appear in the same court on Monday, 31 July 2023, for bail application.
The Provincial Police Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the police officers at Skilpadshek Port of Entry for a sterling job and pointed out that the arrest will send out a clear message that the police and other role players will continue to work hard in the fight against transnational crimes.
