Detective Commander, Lt Col Sizakele Hantibi congratulated Detective Warrant Officer Andry Lottering for the outstanding investigation and arrest of a fraudster in Somerset West
A 57 year old women from Gauteng was arrested in Somerset West on a charge of fraud by a well-known bank. The suspect claim that she was offered a “job” by an unknown man that transported her from Gauteng to the Western Cape. The suspect had to provide the man with an id photo and received an identity book a few days later.
She allege that she was ordered to visit the bank and withdraw R14 000 inside the bank using the identity book. The original bank account holder notices fraudulent activity on her account and reported the matter to the Bank in Hermanus. An alert was placed on the account.
On Tuesday, 29 May 2023 the suspect returned to the same Bank and attempted to withdraw R30 000. Police was informed and the suspect was arrested. A case of fraud was registered.
The docket was assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Andry Lottering for further investigation. During investigation the suspect refuse to provide information of the man.
On Wednesday,31 May 2023 the suspect made her first court appearance in the Somerset West Court. The member ensured that the suspect remained behind bars. The suspect, Geraldine Lindren abandon her bail application and her next court appearance will be on 15 August 2023 in the Somerset West Court.
