MPUMALANGA: Two foreign Nationals aged between 52 and 53, are expected to appear before the Bethal Magistrate Court on Friday , 11 August 2023 for Fraud and Corruption after they were arrested by the Secunda based Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation on Thursday, 11 August 2023.
Their appearance emanates from a criminal case, whereby the duo partook in a scheme to defraud the department of labor. It is alleged that the suspects approached the official to be assisted with their application for UIF( Unemployment Insurance Fund) benefits. The official was told that if she can assist them, they will provide gratification. They further promised her that they would pay R2000.00. Agreement was made for the payment to be done on Thursday, 10 August 2023.
The official suspected that something is wrong because the services at the Department of Labor are free. The matter was reported to the department and escalated to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation based in Secunda for further investigation.
An Intelligence driven operation was conducted, and the suspects were arrested immediately after payment of R2000.00 as previously agreed was paid over.
Members of the Hawks confirm their commitment to follow-up information received from the public, said Major General Gerber.
