Kimberley: 06 September 2023: Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behaviour amongst school children. The behaviour is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious and lasting problems.

There are three types of bullying which are verbal, social and physical bullying. Bullying can occur during or after school hours. While most reported bullying happens in the school building, a significant percentage also happens in places like on the playground or on the bus. It can also happen while travelling to or from school, in the youth’s neighbourhood or on the internet such as cyber bullying.

The South African Police Service in Port Nolloth held an anti-bullying awareness campaign on 31 August 2023 at Stephen Malrber Primary School in Eksteenfontein.

In attendance were personnel from Port Nolloth SAPS, Youth Desk, Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison participants, 35 learners and four teachers.

Learners were taught about bullying and how it is not allowed at school as there will be serious consequences if it is done. Teachers were also advised to help kids understand bullying, keep the lines of communication open, encourage kids to do what they love and teach them how to treat others with kindness and respect in order to avoid bullying incidents at school. The learners enjoyed the session and they were rewarded with sweets and chips that was organised by external stakeholders.

"Don’t bully, read and be a leader tomorrow".
