DAGGA VALUED AT MORE THAN HALF A MILLION RAND SEIZED, TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 09 September 2023  - The Police at Neston Port of Entry arrested two suspects aged 35 and 43 on Friday afternoon, 08 September 2023 thereby recovering dagga to the street value of more than half a Million Rand.

The SAPS members from Border Policing were busy with their routine patrols on that day around 16h20 along the R65 Nerston-Westoe Road when they stopped and searched a suspicious Toyota Etios which was traveling from Neston heading towards Westoe direction. The car had Gauteng registration number plates and it is further reported that the windows thereof were tinted.

It was a shock when 38 bags of dagga, weighing at about 180,40 kilograms were found inside the vehicle. The value of the dagga is estimated to be around R757 680.

The two suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga. One of the suspects is a South African citizen (35) whilst the other is a Zimbabwean national (43) but without documentation to be in the country. Police are working in collaboration with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain his status.

The two are expected to appear at the Amsterdam Magistrate's Court on Monday, 11 September 2023 facing the charges.

Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended members for the great work that they performed by intercepting the vehicle before the dagga could reach their its destination.
