Kimberley- 11 September 2023: The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola lauds the members of Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences(FCS) and the Kimberley Crime Intelligence unit for their relentless efforts and quick response that led to the arrest of the female(21) who allegedly stole the new-born baby from a hospital in Kimberley. 

The baby girl was stolen on Wednesday, 06 September 2023  at about 17:00, from the maternity ward at the hospital. The police followed up on information and found the infant on Friday, 08 September 2023 at approximately 09:00.The infant  and some of her clothes were recovered at the home of the female suspect in Greenpoint in Kimberley .

The baby was unharmed and underwent medical observation before being reunited with her parents. The suspect will be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrates' Court on charges of man stealing(kidnapping) soon.

Lt Gen Koliswa Otola reiterated that crimes against women and children remains one of the priorities of the SAPS and also commended the community for their continued assistance and for being the eyes and ears of the SAPS.
