POLICE DETAIN SUSPECTS IN POSSESSION OF DAGGA AND AN UNLICENSED FIREARM AND AMMUNITION: WESTERN CAPE

WESTERN CAPE: 26 SEPTEMBER 2023 - Dedicated and committed police officers in the Western Cape continue to clamp down on suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and the possession of drugs.

Malmesbury police members were busy with visible policing patrols on Monday 25 September 2023. The members responded to information and entered a dwelling in Tshwete Street ,Illingelethu and searched the entire premises. Their commitment was rewarded when they discovered a revolver with ammunition hidden in a sock on top of a deep freezer. They arrested and detained three males aged between 21 and 34 on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated intervention police members attached to Operation Restore conducted high density stop and search operations in the early hours of Tuesday 26 September 2023 in Khayelitsha policing precinct. When the convoy entered site C, they saw an unknown man next to a red Mercedes Benz, who appeared to be extremely nervous when he saw the marked SAPS vehicles. They approached the man and searched him as well as the vehicle and in the process confiscated 97 sachets filled with dagga. They arrested and detained the 42 year old man on a charge of possession of dagga.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Malmesbury and Khayelitsha Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
