Nelspruit: 26 September 2023 - Two alleged dagga smugglers aged 37 and 43 were arrested with 30 bags of dagga weighing about 80 kilograms with an estimated street value of about R336 000 in Schoemansdal this morning Tuesday, 26 September 2023 at about 09h00 am. Matsamo Boarder Policing members received a tipoff about a black Ford Ranger double cab which was driving from Schuizendal towards Schoemansdal which was suspected of transporting illegal substances. The vehicle was spotted and stopped in Schoemansdal next to Matsamo Mall.
Two suspects were arrested after being found with a vehicle carrying bags loaded with dagga. Preliminary investigation revealed that the luggage was from the Kingdom of Eswatini and was possibly destined to Lipompo Province. The suspects were charged accordingly and are expected to appear at the Nkomazi Magistrate's Court in Tonga tomorrow, Wednesday 27 September 2023.
The dagga as well as the vehicle used were confiscated for further investigation. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded community members for blowing the whistle on criminal activities. "With information that we get from community members, we are able to make arrests and recover goods. Indeed when we continue to worki together, we can do more," said the General.
