MOZAMBICAN WOMEN WHO HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF SOUTH AFRICA 196 TIMES IN SIX MONTHS WAS ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE: NELSPRUIT

Nelspruit: 13 October 2023 - A 32-year-old Mozambican woman is expected to appear before Delmas District Court on Monday 16 October 2023 for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. The woman who is not new to this type of crime has been in and out of the Republic of South Africa 196 times in just six months. It is alleged that she was previously arrested for possession of stolen vehicles in Komatipoort, Diepkloof and Johannesburg Central. The suspect was arrested in possession of a black Mazda 3 on the N4/R48 off-ramp in Delmas yesterday Thursday 12 October 2023. According to information, after the vehicle was reported stolen, it was tracked down in Soweto and later seen heading to the N4.

Gauteng SAPS Highway patrol members tailed the tracking signal and requested Delmas SAPS for backup. The vehicle was later pulled over at the N4/R48 off-ramp.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman who was in possession of Mozambican passport has been in and out of the country close to 200 times within a space of six months. It was also established that she was previously arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicles in Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces. The woman was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and police cannot rule out possibilities of adding other charges.

The South African Police Service in Mpumalanga welcomed the arrest and commended the partnership displayed by both Mpumalanga and Gauteng police officers.
