POLICE ARREST ALLEGED SUCCULENT POACHING SUSPECT IN SPRINGBOK

Kimberley: 30 October 2023:   The Springbok Public Order Policing(POP) unit pounced on a male suspect and found him in possession of 3130 endangered plants worth approximately half-a-million rand.

On Thursday, 25 October 2023 the Springbok POP members of "C" Platoon conducted a self-initiated operation in Springbok, operationalised information and raided a house in Bergsig, Springbok. Endangered Conophytum plant species was found on the premises and a 41 year old male was arrested and  charged under the NC Nature Conservation Act 9/2009 Sec 50 & 51 for illegal possession of endangered plants and will appear in the Springbok Magistrates' Court soon.

The Acting Namakwa District Commissioner, Colonel Legwati lauds the Springbok POP and the community for their relentless efforts to eradicate succulent poaching in the Namakwa District and surrounding areas.
