POLOKWANE : Wednesday, 29 November 2023 In the efforts to embrace the presence of men in  the SAPS, Operation Banna was activated in Limpopo. Men and women in the law enforcement agencies were seen supporting each other and painted Mankweng policing precinct blue to ensure a safer festive season for the citizens of this province.

Operation was conducted at Mankweng policing precinct, in Capricorn District, on Wednesday, 29 November 2023 by SAPS members from various units and stations, Traffic Officers and CPF members. Focus areas were illegal immigrants, drugs, stop and searches including road blocks, amongst others.

Successes were accumulated as follows:

* 02 X Public drinking: Total value R200

* 01 X Selling liquor without a license (R200)

* 02 X Dealing in drugs (R600)

* 01 X Failure to display fire extinguisher (R1500)

* 01 X Driving without a driver’s licence(R1500)

* 01 X Possession of Illicit cigarettes (R1500)

* 01 X Contravention of Second Hand Goods Act (R500)


* 01 X Possession of dangerous weapon (Okapi Knife)

* 01 X Possession of suspected unknown drug

* 01 X possession of crystal drug

* 04 X Dealing in drugs

* 01 X Smoking dagga in public

* 05 X Illegal Immigrants

* 05 X Illegal gambling

* 38 X 10 (380 boxes) of Illicit Cigarettes worth street value R14 000.

In one of the incidents during operation, Crime Intelligence team provided information about a foreign man selling the illicit cigarettes around the area. Operational team, accurately followed the leads and the suspect was found with 380 boxes illicit cigarettes and also selling them. He was immediately arrested for dealing and possession of illicit cigarettes.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the Operational team, for their continuous efforts displayed daily when performing duties.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before Mankweng Magistrate's Court.
