Professionalism and excellency by the Police Detectives has once again been displayed, this time during an investigation by Investigators from Sheepmoor on a case of burglary and theft.
According to information, on 25 December 2023 a burglary was reported at a certain farm in Sheepmoor whereby a group of suspects stormed into a certain farm whilst the owner way on holiday. It is further reported that these suspects stole several items, including five firearm as well as ammunition.

After the case was opened, an investigation was conducted then on Thursday, 04 January 2024 around 13h00 the men and women in Blue followed some information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects. It was during the tour of the investigation that some persons of interest were approached by the investigators. This eventually led to the arrest of the first suspect that day (Thursday). The investigation continued which led to the arrest of the second suspect in the evening of the next day, Friday 05 January 2024.

During the arrest, two rifles, a shotgun and two pistols were confiscated as well as a total of about 96 ammunition recovered for various calibres of firearms including ammunition for a shotgun, a rifle, for a Glock pistol and for a 9mm Pistol. The two suspects are faced with charges of burglary and theft as well as possession of suspected stolen properties, and possession of unlicensed  firearm with ammunition.

As a common practice in the Police and for further investigation, the seized firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were not used in the commission of crime elsewhere after being reportedly stolen during the house breaking and theft incident on a Christmas Day. Currently, Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the two suspects as the investigation continues.

The two are expected to appear at the Ermelo Magistrate's Court on Monday, 08 January 2024 facing the said charges. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspects as well as the recovery of the firearms and ammunition. The General also appreciated the hard working members of the Detectives as they continue to display professionalism and dedication in the work.
