ACCUSED PERSONS EXPECTED TO APPEAR IN COURT AFTER BEING ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH AN APPARENT INITIATION SCHOOL RELATED MURDER

Two accused persons aged 19 and 21, are expected to appear before the Lehurutshe Magistrates' Court on Monday, 15 January 2024, for murder.

The accused were arrested on Friday, 12 January 2024, at Ntsweletsoku village. That after a multidisciplinary team comprising of Ngaka Modiri Molema District, Lehurutshe, Motswedi and Zeerust detectives and visible policing as well as Zeersut K9 made a follow up on two males who were reported missing in Motswedi and Lehurutshe police stations in December 2023. During the course of the investigations, the police found what appeared to be human skeleton bones in a plastic in the bushes near Mosweu village. Further investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the accused who were apparently in charge of the initiation school where the boys allegedly died.

Investigations into matter are underway and the police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the accused to other cases including contravention of the Customary Initiation Act, 2021.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena thanked all members involved in the operation for their tireless efforts to unmask and arrest those who transgress the law.
