Nelspruit: 22 January 2024 - The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the shooting incident at a certain Tavern in Siyabuswa whereby four people were fatally wounded, three of them died at the scene meanwhile the fourth one died in hospital. Currently a report by the Police details about three other victims from this mass shooting who are being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds however the number could increase as the investigation is still at an early stage. The horrific incident is said to have occurred on Sunday night, 21 January 2024, around 21h00.
According to a Police report, on that fateful night, a group of armed suspects are said to have stormed into the said tavern at Kgobokwane next to R573 Road in Siyabuswa. The suspects were reportedly carrying high calibre firearms and they began shooting randomly inside the liquor outlet.
It is further said that three victims died on the spot meanwhile, the fourth one who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds unfortunately succumbed to the injuries as well. At this stage, the Police are investigating four counts of murder with multiple counts of attempted murder.
No one has been arrested so far however a team of experts in the investigation field has already been assembled under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela to probe this heinous crime. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and this quest will form part of the investigation.
