Kimberley: 23 January 2024 - : Members of the SAPS Public Order Policing (POP) unit in Kimberley seized 470 rounds of ammunition during random patrols executed in Kimberley. On Tuesday, 23 January 2024 at approximately 10:00 members of  Platoon 5 of the  Kimberley POP unit were busy with routine Safer Festive Season operations when they spotted two suspicious looking males walking in the road at the Samaria Informal Settlement near the R64 road in Kimberley. The suspects saw the approaching police and allegedly dropped the plastic bag and fled into the informal settlement and escaped through the shanties.

Police searched the plastic shopping bag and found 9mm, Point 22, 38 special, hollow point,  7,65 normal and green projector rounds inside it. The two suspects were dark in complexion and wearing blue overalls and yellow T- shirts.

No arrests were effected however , the proliferation of firearms and ammunition remains a priority for the SAPS hence the police request that anyone with information about the suspects to immediately contact their nearest police station or utilize the MySaps app. Police also request that the public do not approach these suspects as they are presumed to be armed and dangerous.
