The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga together with the Pixely Ka-Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, accompanied by the Provincial Heads responsible for Operational Response Services, Pro-active policing, Finance and Communications, continued after the community engagement in Sunrise police station precinct in De Aar leading more boots on the ground through Operation Dinaledi in Colesberg on Friday 23 February 2024.
Operation Dinaledi meaning stars falls under the umbrella of Operation Shanela, initiated by Pro-Active Policing.
The operation's main aim was to close the net on illegal drug dealing and shebeens which are the root causes of contact and violent crimes in Kuyasa and Colesberg policing precincts.
The operation commenced with a multi-disciplinary roadblock at the N1 Weighbridge during which 93 vehicles and 210 persons were stopped and searched.
A number of fines for the Contravention of the Road Management and the Northern Cape Liquor Acts were issued and seven (7) legal firearms were inspected.
Numerous operational successes were achieved:
5 suspects were arrested 1 female for dealing in liquor , 1 for malicious damage to property, 1 for assault GBH , 2 persons for dealing in and drugs while 2 illegal shebeens were closed.
Large volumes of alcoholic beverages were seized and dagga concealed in luggage with an estimated street value of R 500 000-00 and cash that is believed to be the proceeds of crime were confiscated.
Police also destroyed dagga plantation found at various locations in Kuyasa.
The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Ngubelanga commended all stakeholders and the public who ensured that crimes against substances abuse is eliminated.
He made a special call to communities to rate the police efforts of fighting crime by participating in through the "RATE OUR SERVICE" survey to assist the police in improving services.
