KIMBERLEY - Three accused have been convicted and sentenced in the De Aar Regional Court on Monday, 27 April 2026, for theft of a motor vehicle.

Accused one, Rowan Adams (32) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, accused two , Romano Hartbees (26) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and accused three Chairmaine Pienaar (27) was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Additionally, the court declared all three accused unfit to possess a firearm.

Police from De Aar on 28 November 2025 attended a complaint where the complainant reported that she had parked her vehicle, a Renault Kwid valued at R230 000 in her yard with the vehicle locked.

The following morning, she discovered that her vehicle was no longer in the yard.

Sergeant Samuel Witbooi from the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) in De Aar, attended to the case where information was received that the vehicle could be in Britstown.

The investigating officer immediately followed-up the information that led to the apprehension of the three suspects, two males and one female and the recovery of the vehicle in Britstown.

They remained in custody until the finalisation of their case.

Pixley Ka Seme District Police Commissioner Major General Nomana Mtukushe commended the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Samuel Witbooi of De Aar Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) for his dedicated investigative work that led to the arrest of the accused and for ensuring that justice is served on behalf of the victim. She reiterated that property related crimes remain a priority.
