TSOLO - Rapid response by members of the Tsolo Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) led to the recovery of 100 sheep suspected to have been stolen from a kraal in the Sidwadweni locality, Tsolo, on the evening of 4 May 2026.

Police received a complaint of the theft at approximately 21:30. Within an hour, officers traced and located the abandoned flock in a nearby area. The sheep, with an estimated value of R180 000, were unharmed and subsequently handed over to their rightful owner.

No arrests have been made at this stage. An investigation into the theft is ongoing, and police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, praised the swift action of the CPU members. “Livestock remains a primary source of wealth and livelihood for many of our people, especially in rural communities. The loss of 100 sheep is not just a financial blow but an attack on a family’s heritage and survival,” said Major General Modishana. “I commend the team for their vigilance and speed. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to book. I also urge livestock owners to remain alert, mark their animals clearly, and report any suspicious activity without delay.”

Police have reminded livestock owners to ensure kraals are secure and well-lit where possible, to brand or mark animals for easy identification, and to report any missing stock immediately to the nearest police station or the Livestock Theft Unit.
