POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentencing and incarceration of 24-year-old accused Thabang Hendrick Letsebe for the murder of his 2-year-old biological son in Shongoane village, Villa Nora policing area outside Lephalale.

On Sunday, 06 October 2024 at about 06:00, police responded to a scene in Shongoane village after being alerted by a member of the community. On arrival, they were shown the mutilated body of a 2-year-old boy lying on a bed.

The child’s 24-year-old father was found at the scene in possession of some of the victim’s body parts. He was immediately arrested and charged with murder at the scene.

The case was allocated to Warrant Officer Tebele Mafokoane attached to Villa Nora Detectives Unit for further investigation. Through his dedicated investigative work, he successfully opposed bail and ensured the accused remained in custody until the conclusion of the trial.

On Tuesday, 05 May 2026 the Polokwane Division of the High Court sentenced Thabang Hendrick Letsebe to 20 years direct imprisonment for the murder of the 2-year-old victim.

“This senseless and horrific killing left the community in shock. I commend all role players who contributed to securing this conviction especially Warrant Officer Tebele Mafokoane whose commitment ensured that the accused faced the full might of the law" she said.

"We will continue to prioritise crimes against vulnerable children and ensure that perpetrators receive the harshest sentences possible. Justice has been served for this innocent child.” concluded Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
