Six suspects behind bars on alleged mob justice in Qwaqwa

FREE STATE - An intelligence driven tracing operation led by Thabo Mofutsanyana District Detective, Namahadi Detective, Phuthaditjhaba Crime Intelligence yielded positive results. Suspects including a woman were arrested for February 2022 mob justice where three people accused of committing crimes within the Sebokeng Village were killed and one badly injured.

It is alleged that on 13 February 2022 some community members of Sebokeng Village in Qwaqwa were accusing four people for the commission of various crimes in the area.  They traced and caught all four of them thereafter badly assaulted them. Two died instantly on the scene and the third one died later at a local hospital. The fourth person survived but was badly injured. Cases of murder and attempted murder were investigated. The victims who succumbed to the injuries were Papi Motsapi (47), Lerato Mokoena (31) and Moeketsi Noto (31).

On 05 May 2022 as information was gathered around the people involved, six suspects aged between 20 and 30 including a woman were traced and arrested for mob justice.

All the six suspects are expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate Court on Monday, 09 May 2022 facing three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

"Mob justice has never been and it will never be a solution to the fight against crime. We urge members of the community to have faith in our police and justice system for justice to prevail. I want to thank the police for tracing and arresting those alleged to have been involved in this gruesome act", said the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen BB Motswenyane.
