Three firearms seized following Wentworth shoot-out

Last night at 21:45, a shooting occurred on Tuin Road in Wentworth where two men were shot. Metro K9 police officers who were in the vicinity swiftly responded to the incident and they were joined by Wentworth SAPS.

The victims were taken to hospital for medical attention. Armed with information on the suspects, police began a search of the area and located them on Vasco Road. Upon seeing the police officers, the suspects opened fire and there was a shoot-out. A chase ensued and the suspects lost control of their vehicle along Lansdowne Road. The three occupants alighted and fired shots at the police. One of the suspects age 24 was declared dead at the scene.

Two suspects were taken to hospital where a 31-year-old later died. A 27-year-old suspect is in hospital where he is under police guard. Police seized three pistols, two of which had their serial numbers filed off. The suspects’ vehicle was seized for further investigation. Wentworth SAPS are investigating charges of attempted murder, inquest as well as unlawful possession of firearms. The arrested suspect will appear in court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
