DURBAN – Murder suspect Xolani Mavela (33), appeared before the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on 08 June 2022 and was remanded in custody until 15 June 2022 for bail application.

The Organised Crime and Special Investigations as well as Tracking Task Team members arrested Mavela on 06 June 2022 for six counts of murder and one attempted murder. He was arrested at his business premises at U section in Umlazi. It is alleged that victims aged between 24 and 35 were at Zamani informal settlement in Umlazi sleeping when the two suspects forced entry and opened fire on the victims. A case docket, which included six counts of murder and one attempted murder, was opened at the Umlazi police station for investigation.
